Path out of lockdown...

Announcement 23rd July 2020

Government guidance has been updated to allow certain activities to take place in church buildings, but it is still necessary we meet all hygiene and social distancing precautions that are still in place. We have completed a thorough Risk Assessment and are putting in place some changes to the building.

I know everyone is excited about getting back together for Sunday church and all of our other activities but please bear in mind:

  • While the building has been “closed” our pastoral and elders team have been busier than ever, working tirelessly since March, and are in need of a rest before this new momentum of return.
  • We have adjustments to make to ensure everyone’s safety, this is the path we have chosen to bring us out of lockdown, we realise that our members will have very diverse views about the practises that we are going to be instigating. And so we appreciate you standing with us in unity at this time.
  • If what we are proposing makes you uncomfortable, then please wait until the situation changes to one you are more at ease with.

So how will church look?

  • We are required to keep a record of names and contact details of everyone who enters the building for “Test & Protect”
  • We will have as many of the doors open as possible
  • We know you’ve heard this a million and one times this year, but please wash your hands often, and use our hand sanitiser stations when entering and leaving the building
  • There will be a one way system for entering and leaving, with stewards to guide to seating
  • Please do not make physical contact with anyone – no hugs or handshakes within Mossvale as yet
  • We would prefer the wearing of face-coverings at this time
  • We can have communion, but this will be done on a self serve, self dispose basis
  • Singing and expressive praying – raising our voices in any way - is not yet permitted, even while wearing masks – we acknowledge the constraints this puts on us – and say “this too shall pass”
  • Children must remain with their parents for the moment, we will await further guidance and easing of restrictions on indoor children’s work and organised play activities
  • The café will not be open, and we ask if possible you bring water if you may need it, and don’t use the toilets if possible
  • Our online work will not end – we realise what a lifeline this has been for members who work away from home, on Sunday’s, or circumstances mean you have to stay at home more - this ministry will remain a priority for you

The big question no doubt you are waiting to hear is when?  We plan to restart Sunday Services on August 9th!

We are limited to the number of participants allowed at a service in order to meet social distancing and Public Health requirements. Unfortunately this is currently just 50 people, and will need to be pre-booked by a link that we be sending out and posting online.

As we have said, there is no corporate singing allowed, but we will still have live worship music as part of the service.

We pray that restrictions lift further in the coming weeks, and in the meantime we will be holding two services on a Sunday, 10am and then 12pm, which will require a clearing and cleaning of the Sanctuary between meetings.

As restrictions are lifting and we prepare our staff and volunteers for new challenges, we have now stopped the doorstep distribution of soup and home baking after serving an amazing 150 individuals. We will continue to serve and care for those in need of wellbeing calls and visits to the best of our ability – and we have a well-stocked larder of groceries that can be passed on to anyone in need.

Finally, we are delighted that the Mossy Café is now opened on Mondays and Wednesdays 10am until 2pm. Again this will be based on the current guidelines for catering establishments – restricted seating, table service, quiet environment.

All of these changes mean we will need help more than ever to make adjustments and keep on top of new cleaning protocols!

All of this is subject to change, and we will let you know as soon as we are able when things are clearer.
