We have recently completed an Alpha course which was held in our home from January - April and are looking forward to starting a new course on April 21st. The course gives people an opportunity to explore Christianity, and is ideal for anyone who is interested in investigating the meaning of life and more. The course is aimed at non-Christians, but works well for new Christians too.
Our small group enjoyed the course immensely (no drop-outs!), and over
the weeks together friendships blossomed as we got to know each other
better.
The evening consisted of a meal followed by an introduction of the
evening's talk, and in the tradition of Alpha, a joke to break the ice
- more groans than laughs as it turns out - and then the DVD, with
subjects covered such as Why did Jesus die, Prayer, The Bible, and Does
God heal today? After the DVD, coffee and cakes were served, and then
we had a group discussion for 40 or so minutes covering the evening's
subject and any other questions that anyone wanted to ask. By 9.30pm
it's all over and you are free to go!
Towards the end of our 8 weeks, we had our Alpha Day Away at The
Burnhouse Manor Hotel near Beith, where we spent the day learning about
The Holy Spirit - who He is, what He does, and how can I be filled with
The Holy Spirit? The day was a great joy and success, with many in our
group feeling God's presence during the ministry time at the end of the
afternoon.
The great thing about Alpha is that no question is too hostile, and
everyone is encouraged to feel free to express their opinions, in a
friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
If you would like to find out more about the Alpha Course, please contact the church through the contact section of the website.
